MARCO PRINCIPATO, a young fashion designer born in Taranto in 2002, showed an early talent for fashion marked by remarkable creativity and determination. At just 13 years old, still self-taught, he founded his own clothing brand in 2015. His first ready-to-wear collections emerged from his artisan workshop, using the scenic beaches of the Salento coast as runways: “Fashion Show 2016,” “Fashion Night 2017,” and “Skyfall” spring/summer 2018, the latter capturing a poetic vision of silk skies cascading over the female form.
With the SS 19/20 collection “Black Addicted,” softened with touches of white, he dressed a woman who dares to be discovered without fully revealing herself. Alongside his creative work, he has participated in competitions, earned awards, worked as a pattern maker and designer, and became the fashion stylist for the international band “Elegy of Madness” in 2020. After graduating in fashion at IISS Archimede in Taranto, he continued his studies at the International Academy of Haute Couture and Costume “Koefia” in Rome, where he is now in his final year.
In 2022, he returned to the runway with the collection “À Rebours” SS 23, shown in the historic Sala degli Specchi of the Municipality of Taranto. It marked his first collaboration with leather artisans and international designers, presenting true couture works drawn from a personal archive of treasured ideas and dreams, each dress a unique piece of art.
His latest collection, “Fluidum” SS 24 — awarded at the National Contest “Professione Moda Giovani Stilisti” in Rome — is inspired by artworks like Giovanni Strazza’s “Veiled Virgin,” where matter itself appears fluid. Using moulage techniques and couture embroidery, the structured yet flowing volumes embrace the body’s natural curves, celebrating its grandeur and sensuality in a perfect expression of high tailoring.
